During a rare sunny week in mid November, the roads of Manchester were visited by Chevrolets latest prize product, Cruze! Fresh off a cargo plane from Shanghai, our star had a quick pit stop at Stockyard North before being escorted to Nottingham for a spruce up and tint by the team at Anglo American. Camera ready she arrived at Old Trafford, patiently awaiting to meet her co-stars - (Lukaku, Romelu, Mata & De Gea )
Film Manchester teamed up with The Filmers and Need A Fixer to produce an incredible commercial with Chevrolet, and we had a lot of fun making it! Starting off at Old Trafford with 5 of footballs biggest stars, you could imagine what a joy it was for Glyn Davidson to location manage.
Filming at a location like Old Trafford will always come with its challenges. With understanably increased health & safety regulations, letting a film crew loose in one of the most famous stadiums in the world was never going to happen. But with great communication and laising planned from all sides, we managed to get access to pitch side, the locker room, the tunnel and the museum. We also erected 2 green screen set ups under the stands of the Sir Alex Furguson building. A lot to cover in 1 day but with a fabulous crew (facilitated entirely by Suz Cruz North) who worked tirelessly through out the day, we managed to get everything we needed.
Day 2 we parked up at St Peters Square with our hero car to get shots of Manchester and its beautiful architecture. Meanwhile our Grips rigged our action car (Slightly less glamorous than the Cruze) ready for our POV shots across the city. Day 2 was slightly more complicated with a lot of permits to apply for, transporting a crew of 20 to 4 different locations across the city and a very tight schedule. You can imagine that production had their hands full! With the help of a traffic management team, we managed to shut down (Temporarily) some of Manchesters iconic roads to get our POV driving shots.
The process to get there was not short. Suspending 10+ parking bays, permitting form multiple film offices and getting everything signed off by Manchester Greater Police. But it was all worth it when we seen the final product. Special thanks go out to Rob Hunter our 1st AD who made sure we had a safe and fun 2nd day whilst making sure all crew were safe on the busy roads. Also a massive THANK YOU to Bobby Cochrane of Screen Manchester who helped make sure our shoot got the green light form the relevant authorities.
